I was searching for a thicker homemade hot fudge sauce. After trying many different recipes I discovered this in Taste Of Home magazine. I gave it a try and have used it ever since - with a few changes. The original recipe calls for butter instead of margarine and also uses unsweetened
chocolate squares. I don't buy either of those so I made substitutions. If you use cocoa powder be sure to whisk it well so there are no small chunks! This is a very easy to make. Just make sure you bring the sauce to a rolling boil, not just a few bubbles.
Chocolate Sauce
1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 cups sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla 

Melt margarine in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and whisk well. Stir in sugar, milk, corn syrup, and vanilla. Whisk mixture off and on until it boils. Boil for 2 minutes, whisking as it boils to get out any little chocolate chunks. Remove from heat. This thickens as it cools. Serve warm or cold. Store leftovers in refrigerator. This makes a lot so I freeze half in a sealed glass jar.
