I got this from my aunt. I believe it is from her foods class circa late 50s to early 60's. I find it interesting that there is the packaged mix recipe and the homemade mix recipe. I would assume that the homemade recipe is what's in the boxed mix. Companies today would not give the recipe for the stuff that's in the box. That's what Todd Wilbur is for!

Here's the recipe from The Nestle Test Kitchen:
Standard Mix Method
1. Sift onto waxed paper
    2 c flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 1/2 tsp baking powder
2. Into mixing bowl put
2/3 c shortening, Work until fluffy.
3. Add the sugar gradually, then eggs and vanilla.
    2/3 c sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla
    Mix until light.
4. Add sifted ingredients and blend well.
    Chill 2 hours or overnight.
5. Roll out on floured board or on waxed paper to 1/8" thickness.
6. Cut into fancy shapes.
    Place on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes.
Yield: 4 1/2 dozen cookies
Cool on wire racks.
